Horseheads, NY is my hometown. It's not very populated and there's usually not a lot going on in that town...unless you want to count shopping and bar hopping as your main sources of entertainment.
Now that I'm living in southern California, my hometown is seriously THE BEST place to go when I need a weekend escape from the busy life. Almost everyone knows everyone and the people are very friendly.
When I go home, I tend to stay with my parents, although there are quite a few hotels around there at some very decent prices. You won't find a super fancy five-star hotel or anything, but you'll definitely find a place that's clean, comfortable, has awesome room service and even a pool and jacuzzi for relaxation.
When escaping the busy city life, it's recommended that you spend a few hours outdoors. Hike. Take in the awesome scenery. Just be one with nature! In my opinion, it's best to visit this town in the fall when the leaves are changing and you can take a drive out in the country because it's absolutely beautiful. Of course, winter's pretty fun there too especially since there's plenty of hills for sledding and several ice-skating rinks around!
In the summer when it's time to cool down, there are several outdoor swimming pools. There's also Harris Hill, which has a HUGE pool, quite a few parks, several acres of land to picnic, a couple of baseball fields, some rides for kids, mini-golf, regular golf and everyone's favorite, GO-KARTS!
If you ever get to Horseheads, you seriously HAVE to go to Pudgie's pizza. I grew up with them and they're the best pizza ever...everyone loves them. They're highly praised and I'm pretty sure that if you're heard saying negative things about them, people will gasp in horror and stare at you as if you've got five eyes and a tail. |
